LIVING WITH NO REGRETS: Why You Should Expect to Win the Future

If there were only one absolutely incredible, wonderful thing we could say about Jesus, it would be that because of Him yesterday doesn’t need to have anything to do with today or tomorrow. In Christ, today truly is the first day of the rest of your life. So, treat today like it never happened before. All other days were simply preparation for this one and the time to come. Everything starts brand new right now.
While you may have not been or felt like a winner before, the stone-cold reality is you were born with greatness inside you. You were born with the potential to be a champion. You don’t lose your potential, but you do need to work to realize that potential now.
A great example of this is Rosa Parks. Coming from poverty, without even basic human rights, she would likely have never known she could be a champion in life. Thankfully, she took bold action anyway. Rosa persevered to graduate high school at a time when fewer than 7 percent of African Americans graduated. She responded to mentors and leaders in choosing a job and applied herself diligently to study worker’s rights and racial equality.
When the championship moment of a lifetime showed itself, she was ready. For Rosa, it was simply an act of civil disobedience in 1955, when she refused to give up her seat on a public bus. One historic moment of courage was all that was needed to light the fires of a movement that brought justice to millions, changed the United States, influenced future leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., and impacted the entire world.

Being a champion is not something you’re simply entitled to at birth. Being a champion is a birth opportunity and not a birthright. You have to prepare, believe, and take courageous action.
The “good news” is you don’t have to have a perfect past or take this action on your own.

We’ve often been told to “be (perform) like Jesus.” In other words, make the impossible effort to be perfect and perform like the greatest man who ever lived or whoever will live. As a Christ-follower, that’s a really tough act to follow!” It can leave you stressed and feeling like you’re always blowing it.
Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola say in their book, Jesus Manifesto, “‘What would Jesus do (WWJD)?’ is not Christianity. Christianity asks, ‘What is Christ doing through me…through us?’”2
How we perform is important, but it’s more about being the best vessel possible for God to utilize than the being like God. One of our wise old mentors used to say, “You need to be like a hollow weenie (hot dog) with a hole at both ends.” His point was that you wanted God to be able to work in and right through you.
Paul said simply, “Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). So, rather than “WWJD,” it’s “What can Jesus perform through me?” While WCJPTM doesn’t fit really well on a t-shirt, bumper sticker, or wrist band, it is more accurate.
NASCAR racing is popular in Florida, where I live. To win races, you need to put a whole lot of money into the vehicle. God, on the other hand, can win with every – body. He can do great things through all of us regardless of our past as He’s always moving us towards our best future.
“We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (Romans 8:28). You have been called to greatness; to be a champion in life. What the world, other people, economies, and circumstance may have meant for bad, God will use it for your good.
Your current situation is not an indication of your future destination in Christ. If you read the end of the Book, we are victorious. Don’t settle. Expect to win the future.
