Word Culture
Word Culture
Words are very powerful. More than you might have known. Solomon is very honest with us about this in Proverbs. He says, “Your words are so powerful that they will kill or give life. (Proverbs 18:21, TPT). Can you imagine that? Maybe you feel like that’s a little extreme, but let’s break it down practically. We experience a different feeling when someone tells us we’re doing great than when someone is talking down to us. We create different thoughts in our minds when someone is positive toward us than when they are negative.
I want you to really take into consideration the kind of “Word Culture” that has developed in your office. Whether it’s good or bad, it is present. It needs to be led, directed, and designed rather than ran on default. In Ephesians 4:29 (TPT), Paul says to, “Never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them.” Words of optimism, faith, love, and grace are gifts to one another. It creates a positive environment that is fun and healthy to work in.
Here are 3 ways to lead the “Word Culture” in your office:
The culture begins with you. Not in theory, but in action. Your team is watching and they will follow your example.
Once your positive culture is set, it will be easier to spot someone who is speaking counter-culturally. When you notice this, make sure to intentionally speak with that team member in private, reminding them of the positive culture in your office.
Empower positivity. When a team member encourages another, be sure to affirm that team member, instilling a deeper understanding of the culture you are leading.
With a positive “Word Culture,” your office will become everyone’s favorite place to be. It will be a warm, welcoming, loving, gracious, encouraging, and empowering environment to work in.
Remember, with God all things are possible,
