Faithful to the Present

To build your future, you must first invest into your present. In Matthew 6:34, Jesus says to ,”Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” When we get so caught up in thoughts about the future, we tend to not spend enough time working on what God has already given us.

We need to put our trust in God to take care of what’s ahead, while at the same time, doing our part to work diligently on what’s in our hands. There’s a famous saying that says, “The grass isn’t greener on the other side, the grass is greener where you water it.” Comparison is another way we can become distracted from what needs to be done in our own lives. Rather than looking at the lawn of someone else, we need to make sure to look after our own. It will certainly grow.

In Luke 16:10, Jesus says that, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” When we are faithful in the smallest areas of our lives, God will provide even more for us to steward. Let’s be faithful to what’s in front of us, diligent to the work at hand, and we will discover that the growth of our future began by taking good care of the present.
