THE Chi Rho and Your Inner Intelligent Health Care

    DD Palmer is the founder of chiropractic. History tells us that it was DD’s pastor who named the profession and that the word chiropractic is Greek for “by hand only.”
    What many do not know is that the Chi Rho is a Christian symbol for “Christ.” It has deep meaning and strong roots in the Christian community and DD’s pastor would have likely been well aware of the significance of this term.
    The Chi Rho symbol is made up of the two Greek letters “Chi (X)” and “Rho (P)” superimposed. These are the first two letters in Greek of the name of “Christ.” You can see the Chi Rho symbol here on the shield of Constantine’s warriors.

  You’ll also see in the shield the Greek letters for  “Alpha” and “Omega” representing Jesus as the Alpha and Omega, the begging and the end, from ( Rev1:8). The most significant use of the Chi Rho symbol was during the first century of the birth of Christianity. Early Christians were heavily persecuted and would be jailed, tortured, and thrown to the lions for their beliefs. Therefore, the Chi Rho was used as a secret sign for Christians to identify themselves to each other in order to avoid their oppressors.
    D.D. Palmer described the body’s wisdom as “innate, a segment of that Intelligence that fills the universe.”  This innate intelligence is the subtle substance that:

  • Your internal health care system

  • Guides the development of cells

  • Provides all necessary immunity

  • Coordinates electrons, quarks, and gluons that make up the atoms of your body

  • Regulates the arrangement of cranial nerves (nerves in the brain) and specific cells that enable us to see

  • Causes the body to breathe in life-giving oxygen (O2) and expel dangerous carbon dioxide (CO2)

  • Promotes the combination of cells from a man and a woman in order to create a living being over the next 9 months by using the body’s raw materials

  • Creates, programs, and stays on the job to direct everything going on in the body require to sustain life, heal, and maintain a successful existence.

   The comparison of the Chi Rho symbol and its relevance to chiropractic and the innate intelligence are fascinating. The Bible tells us that Christ lives in you. 1 John 4:13 says, “…we live in Him and He in us; He has given us of His Spirit.” Acts 17:28 continues, “For in Him we live and move and have our being.”   
   Yes, chiropractic is delivered by hand only (Today, even if that hand is holding an instrument). Yet, the purpose is to allow a more full expression of innate and a Christian would say also, “Let Christ’s light shine fully within you.” The ultimate purpose of a chiropractic adjustment is for the individual, loved by God, to reach their potential, achieve God’s purposes, and fulfill their destiny. We also know, “Christ heals.”
   While we still are a kind of secret society, persecuted for our beliefs that differ from those of a dying, sighing, suffering humanity; having gotten our adjustments, we can proudly hold up the Chi Rho shield. This to represent the presence of God within where we are functioning at our best – for a better life and a healthier, saner world.
    I think DD Palmer’s pastor knew what chiropractic really was meant to do then and needs to do now more than ever.
