LIVING BY DESIGN: Building The Foundation Of Your Life

“What one can be, one must be”
-Abraham Maslow

Did you know that a golf ball with all of its dimples, size, weight, and shape was designed so that it would go into the hole every time? That is literally its destiny. There is no other reason for the ball’s existence. The ball knows how to respond to the strike of a club, spin, bounce and roll right into the hole. The club is also created purposefully. Millions of dollars have been put into research to ensure that when this club is swung perfectly it will achieve its purpose to hit the golf ball and achieve the right loft, rotation, speed, and direction and if close enough, go in the hole every time.
Most of us interfere, but if the golfer works in alignment with the ball’s destiny and the club’s purpose, the result is a legend like Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Nancy Lopez, Jack Nicklaus, or Tiger Woods. The same is true with the human body. You were created to be healthy and your body knows how to do this. If you live like you were born to live, your destiny is a long healthy life and the achievement of important purposes. Something we have seen many people accomplish. Much has gone into designing you in such a way as to make a lasting impact on the world.

The Bible tells us that God knit us together in our mother’s womb (Ps 139:13). If grandma goes to knit something, we know that she has a person and a purpose in mind for the beautiful end-product she’s committed to creating. God knit you for a great and specific purpose – “He created your inmost being.”

One of the most well-known scriptures that I share with my kids at least 250 days a year is that God says, “I have no plans to harm you, but to prosper you and give you hope and a future” (Jer 29:11).

I like to break Jeremiah 29:11 down. “I have no plans to harm you.” When things seem difficult, depressing, or impossible it’s important we remember that in the grand design scheme for our lives, there are ZERO plans for our harm. Rather, the only plans when God was knitting was for a prosperous, hopeful, great future.

What were you knit to be? If you were designed to be a bull-dozer, but you’ve been acting like a garden hoe, then you may not be living as designed. If you were designed to be fork and have been trying to do the work of an umbrella, it’s likely challenging.

What is God showing you right now? What is He revealing in your life that would guide you towards becoming more of what you were designed/formed/knit to be?

Remember with God, all things are possible
